What’s an Floor mounted jib crane?
The floor mounted jib crane , also known as the pillar jib crane or free standing jib crane, which is composed of a column, a rotary arm rotation drive device and an lifting hoist, usually an electric hoist, either an electric wire rope hoist or electric chain hoist. The electric hoist runs in a straight line from left to right on the jib I-beam or box girder beam, carrying heavy objects. The jib of the floor mounted jib crane is a hollow steel structure, which is light in weight, large in span, large in lifting capacity, economical and durable. The lifting capacity is 500Kg-5000Kg, and larger tonnage floor mounted cantilever jib cranes can also available with customized crane designs.
Main types of floor mounted jib cranes
Based on different standards, the floor mounted jib cranes can be classified into different types. Usually, based on the foundation design, the floor mounted jib cranes can be grouped into based plate mounted floor jib crane, Sleeve-insert mounted floor jib crane, Foundation/Insert Mounted floor jib crane, and foundationless floor mounted jib cranes,e tc.
Floor mounted jib cranes with foundations
In terms of mounting and installation, there are three main designs for freestanding jib cranes:
- Base-Plate Mounted: This is the most popular and easiest to install design. Bolting a base plate to a reinforced concrete foundation secures the mast, which is subsequently reinforced with gussets.
- Foundation/Insert Mounted: These have a welded steel plate at the bottom of the pole that is anchored during the first-pour concrete footing. The mast is supported by a second concrete pour, which eliminates the requirement for gussets.
- Sleeve-Insert Mounted: A sleeve is welded to a steel plate, which is used to anchor the sleeve to a first-pour concrete footing. The sleeve is then supported by a second pour, and the mast is inserted into the sleeve, leveled, and welded in place. This design allows for the jib system to be relocated if necessary without causing damage to the mast.
Compared to other types of jib crane systems, freestanding or floor mounted jib crane systems offer the highest capacities, longest spans, and greatest amount of rotation. However, due to the special foundation required to anchor and secure the jib crane and support the load during a lift, freestanding floor mounted jib cranes are among the most expensive systems and the most permanent setup.
Floor mounted jib cranes with no foundation
Foundation-less jib cranes are a type of floor mounted jib crane that is slab-mounted and bolted to 6′′ reinforced concrete for indoor use. These floor jib crane systems do not require a special poured foundation and can be installed almost anywhere in a facility as long as the area meets the jib crane manufacturer's requirements.
Because no special foundation is required, these foundationless floor mounted jib cranes can be installed more quickly because there is no need to wait for a poured concrete foundation to cure. If necessary, they can also be easily relocated within a facility.
