Hight safety of wire rope hoist drum and winch drum 

• To increase the contact area between the wire rope and the drum body and to fix the wire rope's winding position on the drum to prevent the influence of adjacent wire ropes rubbing against one another, the surface of the single-layer winding drum is cut with a spiral groove with an arc-shaped section.
• To prevent the wire rope from slipping out, the multi-layer winding drum's surface is typically smooth and devoid of spiral grooves. There are also flanges at both ends of the drum body. The layers are stacked and rubbed against one another as a result of the close arrangement of the wire ropes, which has a negative effect on the wire rope's lifespan. The predicted diameter of the reel, one of its structural parameters, is crucial since it has an impact on the lifespan of the wire rope.

• When the pick-up device is lowered to the lower limit position, in addition to the fixed loop of the wire rope, 1.5 to 3 safety loops should be reserved on the reel in order to ensure the reliable fixation of the wire rope tail and alleviate the stress on the pressure plate or wedge. This is known as the load-relief ring, and it has been considered in the reel's design. The force acting on the pressure plate or wedge of the wire rope tail decreases with the number of loops that are retained during operation, making the rope tail safer. If the pick-up device's lower limit position is too low and the remaining number of wire ropes on the drum is less than the designed number of safe loops, the force on the wire rope's tail will exceed the pressing force of the pressure plate or wedge, causing the wire rope to be pulled off and the heavy object to fall.
