Applications of C hook cranes
Hook cranes also known as Coil handling cranes, which can be built in a variety of different styles, offering versatility and efficiency in the way you handle your lifting projects. Besides, C- Hook cranes are most frequently used for heavy-duty material handling, lifting, hauling, and/or stacking steel coils, aluminum coils, copper coils, steel wires , paper rolls, and other materials.
C hook cranes are widely used for the following application conditions:- Heavy Duty Material Handling
- Paper Roll Handling
- Slit Coil Handling
- Close stacking C-Hook
- Pivoting coil C-Hook
With the proper overhead cane and gantry crane with tailored C hook, they can help your business in the following ways;
- Steel coil handling that is effective by addressing your lifting efficiency and various production needs.
- Quickly and safely lift steel coils into production.
- Manipulate coils into tight spaces for efficient production space utilization.
Crane C hook
The crane c hook is a type of crane attachment that is primarily used for horizontal coil lifting. A Crane c hook is so named because its shape resembles the shape of letter C. It is widely used in steel plant hot strip mills and cold strip mills, for steel coil handling as well as for lifting various types of rolls at work stations, transportation storage yards, freight yards, terminals, and large steel coil users.
Main structure of C hook
Crane c hooks are made primarily of hanging steel structure and weighted iron.
- 1.The hanging steel structure- It is made of steel plate (high-quality low-alloy steel) and steel pipe make up the main part of the Crane c hook. The cross-section is a box-type structure with good bending and torsion resistance. The spreader is lightweight and has a long lifespan.
- 2. Counterweight iron: it helps in adjusting the spreader's balance so that the spreader's and lifted object's centers of gravity are parallel.
C-Hook Options
- Withstand High temperature.
- Mill duty coil lifters.
- Storage stands.
- Protective pads.
- Bail pins.
- Motorized rotation.
- Digital weighing systems.
- Designs for narrow coils.
- Remote control features.
Types of Crane C hooks & Features
Crane C hooks are widely used with overhead cranes and gantry cranes for material handling, coiling handing, paper roll handling, and other types of rolls handling. Yuantai Better Crane is aimed to provide customized C hook cranes for every client to improve their working efficiency, safety and eventually profits.
The C-Hooks of Yuantai Better Crane are designed to meet customer's specific coil handling requirements. This hook lifting products are manufactured according to the FEM Standards. Our overhead crane and crane C hook can ensure you the operation safety and we can offer you CE certificates for your lifting equipment.
Slit Coil C-Hooks
With the help of longer lift arm silt coil c hook, the c hook cranes are used to lift multiple coils simultaneously that are equal to the maximum coil width. The silt coil C-hook is made of high-strength alloy steel and is designed to move easily in small spaces for loading and unloading.
- For heavy-duty applications only.
- Handles several sliced coils, maximizing handling effectiveness. Retracted counterweight reduces interference from machinery or other obstructions.
- High tensile alloy steel plate is lighter and smaller physically.
- Counter balanced to hang level when empty.
- Hooks with an inside radius prevent coil edge contact.
- Standard curved coil saddles.
- Guide handles make it simple to position the C hook.
- For added coil protection, extra cushioning is available.
Counter Balanced C-hooks
Lower member length ("L" dimension) of the overhead crane C-hook is equal to maximum coil width. By increasing the surface area in contact with the steel coil thanks to the whole length support feature of the C-hook, the risk of injury to the inner wraps of lighter gauge coil stock is reduced.
Motorized Rotating C Hook - Steel Mill Crane C Hook
A continuous 360° revolving motorized rotator is part of the mill duty coil lifter, the motorized rotating crane C-hook. This function gives the c hook crane an extra tool for the secure and accurate placing of steel coils.
The steel mill duty overhead crane c hooks are made to withstand the harsh, ongoing conditions found in steel mills. Greater sections and corner radii reduce pressures to maximize service life.
Close Stacking C-hook for Narrow Aisles
For narrow place or close stacking coil handling, the C hook cranes is usually equipped with the close staking c hook. The length of the C hook is shortened from the pick-up point (center of gravity) to the end. Because the lifting arm is shorter, it is possible to handle all coil widths that are within the operational range (from widest to narrowest) without having the lifting arm extend over the coil's outside edge. This type of C hook lifter's smaller overall width can help reduce the need for aisle space, which will increase storage capacity.
Paper Roll C hook
By placing the bottom component through the paper roll core, this C-hook are widely used with paper mill overhead crane to handle the the paper rolls.
C-hooks for Narrow Coils
- Deals with thin coils more delicately.
- Weightless for simpler handling.
- Coil placement is made simpler by the built-in guiding handle.
- With an optional curved coil saddle available.
- Hooks with an inside radius prevent coil edge contact.
Spring balanced C-hook
- Available coil edge protection
- Reduces counter weight and C-hook weight and is especially helpful when handling large coils
The C-Hook and coil handling overhead cranes are excellent choices if you need to handle coils in your line of business. Coils can be handled quickly, safely, and effectively with our C hook cranes.
Yuantai Crane is aware of how crucial it is to use the best coil handling crane possible for your needs. Because of this, our C hook and all varieties of C hook cranes are designed in accordance with the requirements of our clients to improve their efficiency and benefit their business.

Routine maintenance of overhead crane c hook
- The overhead crane c hook needs to be kept by a dedicated individual, placed on a designated shelf, and kept in a factory building that is ventilated, dry, and clean.
- Bridge crane c hook's surface needs to be kept against rust, and it shouldn't be stored near acids, alkalis, salts, chemical vapors, or moist environments.
- The regions with high temperatures must not be used to store c hooks.
- To avoid dry friction and seizures, regularly clean the spinning components and lubricate them with lubricating oil.
Overhead crane c hook safety inspection
- Human-powered lifting mechanism, 1.5 times the rated load as inspection load
- Power-driven lifting mechanism, with 2 times the rated load as the inspection load
- There shall be no obvious defects or deformations after the hook is removed from the inspection load, and the increase in the opening degree shall not exceed 0.25% of the original size.
- The qualified hook should have the rated weight, factory or factory name, inspection mark, production number, and so on printed in the low stress area of the hook.
When you encounter the following situation, it should be abandoned:
- Any crack is detected, the overhead crane C hook should not be in use.
- Dangerous section wear of up to 10% of original size
- The opening degree has been increased by 15% from its original size.
- The hook twisting deformation is greater than 10°.
- C-hook dangerous section or plastic deformation of the hook neck.
- The hook thread is corroded.
