Advantages of Ladle Hooks

• Instead of using rivets as is currently done, body-bound, high-strength shoulder bolts are used. According to AISE Technical Report No. 7, the quantity of bolts satisfies the same specifications as rivets.
• The following is a comparison between the strength and substance of bolts and rivets: Bolts: AISI 1045, Yield: 54,000 psi minimum, Ultimate: 86,000 psi minimum. Rivets: ASTM A31, Grade A, Yield: 23,000 psi minimum, Ultimate: 45,000 psi minimum.
• Laminated plates are pulled together more tightly by torqued high-strength bolts than by the currently used rivet installation method.
• Body-bound bolts prevent plates from moving. In contrast, the nominal diameter of the rivet is 1/16" larger in diameter than the holes for rivets.
• By putting in larger body bound bolts that are sized for each individual application, it is possible to reuse previously riveted ladle hook plates.
• Bolted ladle hooks are more simpler to disassemble and then repair than riveted hooks, which lowers the overall cost.

The estimated service life of bolted ladle hooks is 4 to 5 times longer than that of riveted hooks, according to current experience.

Laminated hook The laminated ladle hook is riveted through several steel plates.
