Causes and prevention of the failure of the crane motor burnt out/lifting motor

What are the reasons for the burning of the crane motor during use? Under what circumstances are it easy to burn? What needs to be paid attention to? The following are some possible reasons for burning the motor.

Electric motor - main parts and components of the cranes

The possible reasons for the crane to burn the motor are: crane load is too heavy, heavy or overloaded, motor bearing pressure is too large and damaged, there may be brake failure, whether it is disconnected during operation or the electromagnetic coil is poorly connected, causing power failure. The brake pads lock the brake drum.

The second most important reason is the lack of phase. The reasons for the lack of phase are as follows:

  • 1. The contacts of the contactor are frequently activated and quickly burned, and the contact springs and the plastics at the contacts are burnt and deformed, etc., which will make the contact position insufficient and cause a lack of phase.
  • 2. If the fuse is too small, it will cause heat to blow and phase loss;
  • 3. Poor contact of the main power supply causes phase loss;
  • 4. Poor contact of the motor's three-phase power incoming wires.
  • How to prevent lack of phase: Install a high-sensitivity automatic air switch and thermal overcurrent protector, and install a lack of phase controller to effectively prevent it.

The crane's motor operates on an intermittent basis. It is distinguished by frequent starting, braking, or reversal, as well as frequent changes in the size and direction of the load. To adapt to mechanical vibration shock, high mechanical strength and overload capacity are required. Cranes primarily use induction motors, both squirrel cage and winding type. A three-in-one geared motor is also available. Motor insulation grades are F and H. Insulation grade F is commonly used in fields where the ambient temperature is less than 40°C, and insulation grade H is commonly used in fields where the ambient temperature is less than 60°C.
