Background of Singapore overhead crane project

The low headroom overhead crane is designed for one of our cooperated clients in Thailand, who has a new project in Singapore. Due to the previous successful cooperation, this time everything went well very smoothly.

Confirmation of overhead crane specifications

The lifting capacity will be 12.5 tons, but the runway beam and rail tracks have not yet been installed; only brackets have been built. So we requested a workshop drawing and to confirm workshop dimensions such as bracket height, wall to wall distance, and headroom height.

We determined the crane's span and lifting height, runway beam size, and crane type based on these data. After receiving our first design drawing, our client requested a larger lifting height of up to 8.6 m in order to lift the loads high enough. In that case, a standard LD overhead crane was no longer appropriate for the project. We immediately changed the design to a low headroom type LDC overhead crane, increasing the lifting height to 9 meters.

On crane control confirmation

We added a wireless remote control on the electric control box while keeping the pendant line control because the  overhead crane operator would be on a high platform most of the time rather than on the ground. Because lifting requires precision operation at times, we recommended dual speed for lifting and single speed for both cross travel and long travel.

Additionally, we supplied the crane with a power supply conducting system that included a seamless busbar, current collector, strainer, and other accessories.

Features of low headroom crane hoist

• The best clearance height. With low headroom design, the electric hoist can increase the lifting height by 200-500mm compared with ordinary CD hoist.
• Excellent three-in-one transmission technology, the hoisting reducer is made of high-quality alloy steel, three-stage deceleration, stable operation, long life and reliable performance, avoiding many shortcomings of long-distance transmission of CD type electric wire rope hoist intermediate shaft.
• The hoist motor is a specially designed new self-cooling cone motor. The motor shell is made of aluminum alloy material with good heat dissipation performance. The motor insulation class is F class and the protection class is IP54, which is one level higher than ordinary motors.
• The electrical components are world-class Schneider products, using large-capacity contactors and other components. The connection between the control switch and the motor and electrical components uses quick plugs to make on-site installation faster; the cables of the  low profile hoist are protected by PE bellows , to ensure reliable cable connection.
• According to user requirements: hoist operation, hoisting single and double speed or frequency conversion stepless speed regulation control, remote control operation, overload protection, motor overheat protection and other functions.

•  All of the wires and cables are arranged inside the electric low clearance hoist by various means to make the appearance of the hoist more beautiful; for example: the supporting shaft is a hollow thick-walled steel pipe. The overall weight of the electric hoist is reduced, and the cable passing through the left and right parts of the hoist is realized through it.
• The structure of the low headroom crane hoist is compact, and the counterweight is loaded into a counterweight box . Users can add various scrap steel or stones, etc.,as the counterweight, which saves steel materials, and at the same time reduces the overall size compared with the counterweight block type low headroom electric hoist;
• The low headroom electric hoist is driven by NF series helical gear reducer. The driving wheels on both sides transmit torque through a hexagonal steel. The transmission torque is large and the reliability is high. It is very beneficial to the installation and adjustment of the running part of the electric hoist;
• The outer cover of the hoisting main engine is a square welded structure, with mounting bolt holes on all sides, which has high versatility and can be quickly changed to a fixed or suspended trolley-running electric hoist, and the rope can be released in 360° directions.
