Back ground of 40 ton overhead crane for sale America

The 40 ton overhead crane inquiry is from an automobile company in USA, which we have cooperated in 2018 on a sets of overhead crane. And the 40 ton crane required this time is used for die and mold handling in their workshops. It is so pleased to get the recognition of clients and have the chance to cooperated again.

Overhead crane requirements

• Crane type: European style double girder overhead crane
• Crane specification: -  overhead crane  with capacity of 40 ton, span 22.25m and lifting height of 10.688m.
• Quantity； 2 sets
• Application: Indoor use for die and mold handling

Due to the previous experience of cooperation, the communication of the 40 ton overhead cranes are very smooth.  After confirmation on the lifting requirements and application conditions, the General Drawing of the double girder overhead crane was send to our client for confirmation. And the American client reply as the following:

“Thank you for your drawing. The crane you have presented looks like it will meet our needs. Please provide your quote as soon as you can. Please provide your lead time to manufacture the 2 cranes. I am attaching a spec sheet for the crane as well as a reference tool for you to use. Our preference is to use Siemens or AB controls for the cranes for ease of maintenance here in the US. Let me know if you can accommodate this request.”

Questions and concerns on the 40 ton overhead cranes

During further communications on overhead crane, the following questions are the concerns of the American clients, which are presented for your reference.

On crane wiring

• Questions of American client :Will detailed electrical schematics be provided with the crane for wiring purposes?
• Answer of Yuantai Crane :For electric wiring diagram, our common practice is we will send complete wiring diagram although most of the wiring are done before dispatch from our factory.

On crane working class

• Questions of American client :The working class quoted here is FEM2M (ISO M5) which is the same class I purchased previously but to be honest my current crane does not seem to be designed for every day use. The previous crane is not used every day so it is not an issue. These new cranes will be used every day 3 shifts per day so we need a more robust system. Are you able to quote an ISO M7 class work duty?
• Answer of Yuantai Crane :For the new project, we can change the working class to M7 which is more suitable for frequent lifting as described.

On crane rail.

• Requirement of American client : I would like you to include 4 pole conductor bars for crane electrification as well as the rails.
• Question of Yuantai Crane :For rails and bus bar, please specify each crane's travel distance. Are two cranes running in the same span or different?
• Reply of client: Please also quote 500 feet of rail and 250 feet of 4 pole conductor bars. The travel distance for each crane is 125 feet. Each crane will run on different spans but are the same length and width.

On crane speed - Single speed or variable speed

• Question of Yuantai Crane : For the crane purchased back in 2018, I noticed that you insisted on having single speed for both cross travelling and crane travelling, and inverter controlled for lifting speeds.
• Answer of American client  ： No, we want variable speed (inverter controlled) on the cross travel and crane travel.

On crane span length

• Questions of American client : I have one last item I need to ask you about the span of the cranes. Could you produce one of the cranes with a span 72 ft. 8 inches and the other crane at 73 ft. Please let me know as soon as possible.
• Answer of Yuantai Crane : that's no problem.Attached please find design drawing for the one with span 72 ft. 8 inches (22.15m).For the span 73ft (22.25m), drawing remains the same.Pricing remains the same too as this minor change doesn't reflect in any price change.

After solving the concerns and questions, the American clients placed the order to Yuantai Crane, and the email are as following:

“We are pleased to inform you that we have selected your firm for the purchase of the two 40-ton bridge cranes. Please reference your Project No: YTUSQDX220323. Our CFO, Mr. John Hrovatich would like your banking information so we can make our 50% advance payment. Also, we would like your guidance as to how your customers normally ship your cranes to the USA.”

Questions on crane shipment and installation

As for the shipment and installation of 40 ton overhead cranes has its unique features due to the special covide-19 situation in 2022. At that time,  Yuantai could not send installation engineers to the working site and shipping freight changed rapidly . The American client has the following questions for your reference.

1. We need to make sure these are open top containers.  This will allow us to use another crane to off load them.

Reply: Open top containers will be more expensive and its availability shall be confirmed before dispatch. For your information, to Cleveland, one open top container is priced around 16500usd in the month of June.

2, We agree with waiting until we know the weight to determine cost.  At the current rise of diesel here, shipping into Cleveland may break even when trucked from Baltimore. 

Reply: Ok. We can check the actual freight and you let me know which port to go with before dispatch.

3, Will the trolley arrive with the cable already installed? 

Reply: The cable will already be installed. Hook will need to be installed on site due to the constraint of shipment.

4, Do end stops come with the cranes?

Reply: We will provide crane buffers, but end stoppers are not included. End stoppers are usually steel plates whose sizes are customized to onsite conditions. If you need us to provide, please provide the size, and I will check if we can customize.

5, Are the bolted clamps and bolted platens also known as gantrex clips?

Reply: Due to difference in terminology, I attached some photos of bolted clamps and bolted platens for reference. I also attached an installation guide for crane rails.

6, Do you have a cut sheet for the 200A Alloy slide wire?  I assume this is also know as the electrified rail?

Reply:  200A Alloy slide wire is an electric system that connects main power in workshop to crane travelling mechanism. I attached an installation guide with photos which will explain better.

7, At over 72’ each, what type of assembly will be required?

Reply: The rails and slide wire do not come at one piece of 72‘. They will come in pieces that can fit in containers which will need to be assemled on site.

8, Is a standard rail splice acceptable?

 Reply: Please refer to rail installation guide and let me know if any further question arises.
